Every encounter is a 50-50 chance of survival no matter how good you are at combat. However, this secret technique could give you a little boost over the opponent, read carefully.
& nbsp; The tiger look, commonly defined as "the move to defeat the opponent even at the beginning" is a move developed by a frail looking aikido sensei wherein everyone understimated him by his appearance. However, it gave him the advantage over two things with the tiger look technique. Thugs(people who only knows how to street fight) who attacked him lost because of over conidence, not knowing that his a strong teacher; and the martial-artists, sen sed that the frailty was just a cover up to deceive them from his true strength. The tiger look not only made him vicious over the opponents which caused them to lose concentration even before the match begins but it also caused some to give up even before the match began.
& nbsp; The tiger look technique is a move that uses the eye as the key to execute fear over opponents. After making a strong stance, the facial expression leaves no trail o fear, making one look like a veteran, cold blooded killer. And the eye, unmoved and focused to the opponent's eye, as if transmitting an energy saying that, "I could bring you down in one blow...I could bring you down in one blow..." Now this technique may seem a little too advanced for beginners but believe me, it would benefit even beginners.
& nbsp; Imagine a woman in an "I-will-rape-you-situatio n." What would be the initial reaction of the woman? Scared of course. Some try to cool down the situation but the voice shakes a lot which makes it too obvious that she's also scared. But imagine if someone is equipped with a basic knowledge of the tiger eye. If someone declares to her that "I will rape you!" Instead of being afraid, the woman inhales a little, gives off a cold expression on her face, reaches on her concealed weapon, and looks straight at the rapist's eye as if transimitting, "I will kill you..." The rapist would have second thoughts on fighting the woman and would be alarmed to have met someone like her. that's why this technique is useful for beginners, and much more useful for veterans. Rememer, inhale a little, give off a cold expression on y our face, reach on your concealed weapon (folded umbrella works really fine) and look straight at the opponent's eye as if transimitting, "I will kill you..." should situations like rape occur. Practice this on a mirror, and i you're scaring yoursel, you're on the roll!
Let me relate to you an encounter that might be our lesson for this entry.
I was really unsure of what just happened last night but somehow, it seemed like someone was following me not in a dark alley, but ever since i got out from school in the afternoon. It seemed that there's someone behind me as i walk towards home because one would knew if there's someone near by if one gets use of "temperature sensitivity," a slight, hot feeling of a presence, especially when the person is very near. But as i look behind, there's no one there. I thought it was just an imagination but it wasn't. As time went by i heard footsteps, louder as if it would hit me anytime if i hadn't looked back at that second. But as i looked again, no ones there. So i thought that the sound was coming from my backside, a little farther, someone who had mastered the usage of sound illusion. I knew at that moment that i had to make a plan.
& nbsp; The figure stops when i stop. So i thought that if i moved fast, the figure would also move fast. I did that and simultaneously, the figure walked faster because of the swift footsteps he/she was making. But my plan wasn't to stop. It was to make the figure think i was running. As i felt the heat presence of the figure very close to me, i immediately seized my speed a little and crouched, giving the figure no time to reduce speed or act. I was right at my premonition that someone was following me. It was a daylight robber, hoping he would snatch my cellphone because i didnt notice that it was hanging around my waist, because my cellphone has a strap so that it wouldnt fall even if i accidentally do something to make the cellphone fall. The robber made a classic move. It was a move to deceive sound so that at first, you'd think he just behind you, but a little far, hiding and waiting for the correct timing to snatch your belonging. But practicing the first practical lesson, knowing your surroundings, makes one sharper in situations like this. The move i made caused him to stumble 2 times in front of me and as he was stumbling, i immediately reached for my umbrella and aimed the tip at his throat. He stood up immediately and ran, i didnt go after him because it was better this way. When an opponent runs, let him (unless of course he's a rapist that needs to be caught. 8)) because you'll never know what he'd do if you ran after him. The tide might turn, so it's better that way. But keep in mind that some robber's style are like this. Don't be deceived. Know your surroundings, and take care of yourself well.
& nbsp; This Blog is dedicated to my cousin who died october 5.
& nbsp; Last night we got a letter saying that my cousin in Shanghai died due to bullet wounds in her head and at her back. She defended my niece from 13 thugs that were drunk around the street near our house. She was shot 9 times, according to the forensics, 5 at her back and 4 at the head. But before she died, she managed to take down a number of thugs which caused them to flee. But as the thugs were fleeing, 1 thug fired shots at her which took her life. The street was in disarray because of the gunshots which caused all the thugs to flee. My niece was safe. Mei was a martial-artist. A hero, which will go down to the legends in our book.
The folding umbrella is the most pratical weapon we can use when we're out. Not only is it useful in rainy seasons or in summer, but we may use it as a great defensive tool in encounters. Here's how:
1. Make sure the folding umbrella is sturdy. Not the ones destroyed by a little rain showers. Also, make sure the umbrella is not pointed for we kill our opponents.
(The "butt" or the piece where we hold our umbrella and the "tip" or the other end of the umbrella are the terms I'm gonna use to avoid confusion whihc side should hit the enemy.
2. Always place your umbrella to a place where you can get it in a split second. For example in our hand bags or back packs with our umbrella vertically placed at the side. This is of course for us to get it anytime where in trouble.
3. During encounters, make sure you're holding the umbrella (folded) upside down, like when we hold daggers when we want to stab someone. Hold it at the right hand if you're right handed and vice versa. face your opponent in a standing side stance. (side stance=facing your opponent with your head looking at the direction of your left shoulder if you're right handed, and vice versa, with our feet slightly apart.) Having a good stance makes a good balance. Remember that. This will be oyr basic stance in all our defenses.
4. Stretch the unarmed hand towards the enemy. This will serve as our guard and our ruler for the timing to execute our offence and defense. If our opponent gets close to our hand guard, this means we have to execute an attack or defend.
5. The most effective attack we can make is to land a blow in our opponent's chin. This will leave him unconscious and discombobulated for a while. Should he get too close, attack by landing the bottom side of the umberlla to the opponent's chin . To do this, put your right foot forward first then as the right foot lands, nail him with your umbrella. (vice versa if your left handed) Yo u may also hit him in the middle of his chest and his stomach for him to choke for air.
Remember, each time we learn a new technique, we will not be able to execute it correctly if we don't practice it regularly to attain good posture, correct technique, and speed.
(Hi, sorry guys for being out for a while. I had some problems with my computer which affected my posting schedule. Anyway, lessons will now be posted regularly as what the last blog said. Sorry for the inconvinience.)
A martial-artist knows his surroundings well. One must learn how to observe and feel his surroundings each step he make. Practice moving with a presence of mind each time you take a walk, especially when you're far from home. A practiced sensitivity in your surroundings is one of the very first steps in being a true martial-artist.
As we walk the streets in these times, we are no longer safe. Anyone can just walk behind or beside us and say "This is a hold-up" and what do we do? we often freeze and we don't really know what to do because that man sticks a knife or a gun to us.
With enough sensitivity to our surroundings, we may prevent this from occuring to us. We may not prevent every encounter but it will lessen the times. I may sound like a parent in saying this, but this is very important. We sometimes take for granted to what they say, but what our parents say is one of the basics of being a martial-artist. Not only will it save you from unnecessary encounters, but a sensitive feeling will make us react faster to attacks which will be very useful in the practice of techniques and actual combats.
Stay away from dark deserted areas. Especially during at night. This gives us the advantage of being away from the most popular terrains used by most of the bad guys. They're like trolls waiting for someone in the darkness of the bridge.
Attaining a sensitive feeling to our surroundings is not hard to achieve. It just takes practice. Each time we walk in the streets or in other places. Let us practice not to walk absent mindedly. Know what's happening at your side, back and whats going on ahead of you. But don't act too suspicious by turning your head constantly and looking at others with a tiger's eye. Just feel what's happening in the area by simply having an adept mind. Be alert when there's activity going on, especially to cries. Also, have the benifit of the doubt when someone you don't know approaches you. Look at how how he walks or approaches you. If you feel he's too suspicious, step back and go to a crowd to confuse him. But if you're alone and no other person is there (Especially at night times) , use a the most practical moves which will be taught in this blog.
With these basic lesson practiced enough everytime, we will attain a sensitive feeling to our surroundings which will give us not only an alert mind to situations, but a feeling of security because we know whats going on around us. Usually, our sensitivity level goes up in time. We can make it stronger by continually practicing this lesson.
Hi. I'm a teacher of the katana and martial-arts, particularly in the "Fu No Kata Ryu(Fighting like the wind style)." This blog contains practical lessons about self-defense which may help you feel a little safe outside your home. I'm writing this blog because one of my concerns goes out to the women who feels uneasy when they're outside of their home due to the rape cases increases every year, to some men so that they can defend their family and their household, and to other people who wants to protect people who are dear to them. However, let me tell you this. This style of martial-arts is ONLY used for self-defense. Starting a fight or killing is very bad and goes out of my principles. It can really be effective against your opponents if practiced correctly. But it can also be damaging to you if not executed correctly. So I suggest reading the lessons over and over again until you get them right. You will know if you get it right if you executed a move hurting ONLY your opponent and not ending up breaking your joints. Again, this style is not for killing. This is "teaching-your- opponents-a- lesson" Don't kill them while defending either. Sorry for expressing the "don't kill" stuff much. I just can't express enough how important the not killing rule is. I will not be held responsible for your actions should you use the martial-arts immorally.
"Fu no kata ryu" is a combination of Aikido, Kendo and Karate, which makes it very effective in a situation. It is both effective for defense and offense. I just hope I can share my little knowledge to people who needs some practical lessons on self-defense. I will try to post a new lesson every week. BTW, I cannot teach kendo here because it is too hard to put them in words.
